Certificate for a good environment
From the first vessel – MV FRIBORG – the shipping company has grown steadily. The Kopervik Group has today 11 vessels ranging from 1500 up to 3500 mts dwcc. They are dry bulk general cargo vessels carrying anything like fishmeal, grain, malt, metals, minerals, split etc. The vessels trade all Europe – all seas stretching from Iceland, Scandinavia, Baltic Sea, Great Britain, Ireland, continental Europe, Mediterranean, Black Sea and down to the Canary Isles.
The crew on board mainly consist of Polish, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians and Russians. These nations have long traditions in maritime trade and seamanship and are well renowned for educating competent and skilful marine crew. Some of these Baltic seamen have been employed in the company since the start in 1994.
Managing Director, Mrs. Kristine Skeie, has emphasized the significance of not only sustain a good working environment and atmosphere on board, but also to establish and maintain a green environmental policy within the whole company. In very near future the Kopervik Group, is scheduled to be ISO 14001 certified. For a shipping company of this size the task of implementation of this code has been very demanding asking severe efforts and dedication from the staff.
Within its niche the Kopervik Group will be the first shipping company in Norway – allegedly also the first within the whole of Europe – to obtain this document of quality. The company has already fulfilled the requirements for this certification, but now it is time take action in order to systemize all issues implied in the a.m. code – and to prove all actions taken. Measurable environmental targets have been defined and set, i.e. reduction of fuel consumption.
